Biddenden Vineyard is
Kent’s oldest commercial vineyard, having been established by the Barnes
family in 1969 to produce wines and ciders. The vineyards are set in 22
acres on a gentle south facing slope in a shallow sheltered valley, 1.2
miles from the lovely Wealden village of Biddenden. Ten varieties of grapes
are grown to produce White, Red, Rosé and Quality Sparkling wines.
Traditional Kentish ciders have also been made here for over 20 years
together with farm pressed apple juices.
After our morning tour of the Vineyards and tastings of the
award winning wines, ciders and juices, we enjoy a Ploughman's platters
served with Winterdale cheese, local ham and a glass of wine. At 1.30
we depart for Winterdale Cheesemakers, for a guided tour of the dairy
and cave finding out how their award winning Winterdale Shaw, a cheddar
style cheese, and their Kentish Camembert are made. Our visit includes
cheese tastings and concludes with a Kentish cream tea.
Departing from 8am, and with a comfort stop at Thurrock, we
arrive at Biddenden Vineyards in time for our 11.30 guided tour. We
leave the Cheesemakers at Wrotham (near Sevenoaks) at 4.30pm and arrive back
in the local area around 7.15pm. Wine tasting, cheese tasting,
Ploughman's Platter and Kentish Cream Tea are included in the cost of your
day.
