We will
arrive at The Savill Garden mid-late morning - one of Britain’s greatest
ornamental gardens, developed under the patronage of Kings & Queens. It was
created in the 1930’s by Sir Eric Savill, began as a woodland garden and has
since evolved into many areas such as
Spring
Wood, Summer Wood, Hidden Gardens, The Glades, Summer Gardens, Azalea Walk,
New Zealand Garden and last year’s stunning new Rose
Garden. You will be hard pressed to
explore it all in the time we have!
Frogmore
House, set in the private Home Park is renowned for its beautiful landscaped
garden and 18thC lake. Queen Victoria loved Frogmore so much that she chose
to build a mausoleum here for herself and her husband, Prince Albert, in the
grounds. The interior reflects the interests and talents of several
generations of the Royal Family. Princess Elizabeth, daughter of George III
and Queen Charlotte was a gifted amateur artist and painted the decorative
panels on view in the Cross Gallery. In the Victoria Closet, you can see
works of art by three generations, Victoria Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria
and a number of works by her children including Princess Victoria and
Princess Louise. The garden is an enduring attraction. Queen Charlotte had
a great interest in botany and was given full rein in the garden which she
laid out with rare & unusual plants.
Timings: We
leave at 8.30am, arrive at the Savill Garden mid-late morning and stay there
until after lunch. We move on to Frogmore mid-afternoon, in which there
will be time to walk in the garden and have a guided tour of the house.
Return to the local area around 7pm
