If you are a BBC Essex
listener, you will have heard of the
360 acre estate at RHS Garden Hyde Hall. The developed
area of the gardens, in excess of 24 acres, is described as
“demonstrating an eclectic range of inspirational horticultural
styles, from the formality of clipped hedges on the Hilltop, to
the naturalistic planting on Clover Hill. The wilder peripheries
of the estate comprise sapling woodland, meadows, and a
model garden for wildlife which enhances biodiversity”.
Among the
highlights of the garden there are also a 1,600sqm
Dry Garden with over 730
species
demonstrating the
fantastic range and style of plants you can
grow to cope
with drought and exposure to high light levels,
the Robinson
Garden showcasing plants that love cool, shady,
damp conditions, colour themed herbaceous borders, Australian & New Zealand
Gardens,
Rose Garden and a Garden for Wildlife. During your
visit you will also have
time to visit the Thatched Barn Restaurant and/or Courtyard Tearoom,
serving
a wide selection of drinks
and hot & cold foods. You may want to conclude your visit
with some time in
the Plant Centre and shop.
After lunch, we board
the coach for the short journey to Marsh Farm Country Park. Marsh Farm
Country Park is owned and managed by Essex County Council. You may walk and
enjoy the peace
of the Country Park, a fine example of Essex Grazing Marshes. Walking
in the Country Park is free and also allows you access to the Gift Shop and
Tea Room.
There are excellent birdwatching and coastal walks with superb views of the
River Crouch. Marsh Farm (entrance extra - £6.25 adult, £4.50 concession,
£3.75 Child 3-13, U3 Free)
is a working farm where everyone can get close to
the farm animals and
children will particularly enjoy stroking, feeding and getting acquainted
with lambs, piglets, guinea pigs, rabbits and more. There is a tractor &
trailer ride, pony rides, craft areas for children and much to learn about
the animals on the farm. The farm is fully accessible
and we are sure you
will enjoy the experience. Marsh Farm has a mobility scooter & wheelchair
that can
be pre-booked.
Leaving the local area
at 8.30am, we will have the morning and lunchtime at Hyde Hall and the
afternoon at Marsh Farm Country Park. We return to the local area around
6.15pm.
