This is your
chance to enjoy a very popular trip that we last undertook in 1997.
Departing the local area at 8am, we will arrive at the Thames Barrier so
that we can look
around the Exhibition at our leisure. Here you will find out how the
Barrier was built, and how necessary it was and continues to be in its
protection of London from the sea tides.
After our visit
to the Thames Barrier we board the Thames River Service boat for a 1.5 hour
Thames Cruise to Westminster on the way passing many of London's landmarks
and sailing
under Tower Bridge. We meet the coach again at Westminster from which
you can take one
of two options:
(1) You can
remain on the coach for the journey straight to Greenwich, or
(2) You can disembark the coach at Tower Hill to take the Docklands Light
Railway (fare not included). While experiencing the driverless DLR
train you can view all the interesting
Docklands views on your journey. You can then either
(a) travel straight through to Greenwich Pier or
(b) travel to Island Gardens on the Isle of Dogs, where you can join me for
the stroll through the Victorian Greenwich Foot Tunnel from the Isle of Dogs
to Greenwich.
The remainder
of your afternoon will be your own to spend at your leisure in Greenwich.
You
may want to view the newly conserved Cutty Sark, relax and enjoy the views
of the river,
visit the Market or take a stroll through Greenwich Park to the Royal
Observatory, or visit the
Greenwich Museum.
We leave
Greenwich at circa 5.30pm, returning back to the local area around 8pm.
